The magnetic speed sensor pick up gets fouled from the metal shavings in the transmission which causes the speedo to stop working and the directionals to stop self canceling because of no input to the ECM from the sensor. Posted on Jun 28 2009. The lights to the speedometer still work and the electronic reading on the odometer still is giving a reading. Clean off any metal shavings on the magnetic sensor Reinstall and see if this fixes your problem.

If not you may have to change the sensor. It is pretty easy to replace a speedo cable on your makemodel mc. If not you either have a dead speedo or a short to its power.

You will be able to see where your cable screws onto your speedo. Also it would cause the SpeedRPM cancel function to fail. That would cause the speedo to illuminate but not read anything.
